Sitagliptin and metformin hydrochloride sustained release is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults. It’s taken in combination with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels.
How it works

MetforminReduces the amount of sugar absorbed from the stomach and released from the liver. It also helps the body use sugar more effectively.

SitagliptinIncreases the substances that signal the pancreas to release more insulin. It also signals the liver to stop producing sugar when blood sugar levels are too high.
When it’s used
- When metformin alone doesn’t adequately control blood sugar levels
- When other diabetes medications, like insulin, sulphonylureas, or glitazones, don’t adequately control blood sugar levels
Side effects Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), Prolonged diarrhea or vomiting, Changes in menstrual cycle, and Increased risk of pregnancy.
